Consultant at St Bartholomew's Hospital

Ben Adams was appointed as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at St Bartholomew's in August 2018 at the age of 37 and has a special interest in complex aortovascular surgery. Ben read medicine at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ School of Medicine graduating in 2005 with a first-class BSc in Radiological Sciences in 2002 in addition.

His cardiothoracic training was in the London Deanery rotating through St Thomas’, The Royal Brompton and the Heart Hospitals and finally Barts. He undertook a period of research at King’s College London in endothelial progenitor cells as part of his academic foundation training and was awarded two prizes for his research work.

Ben was appointed as Quality and Safety Lead for Cardiac Surgery at St Bartholomew's in 2019.

  • Coronary artery bypass surgery including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvest
  • Valve surgery 
  • Aortic surgery including complex root and arch work
     

Research interests

  • Ben has 27 publications in peer reviewed journals and has guest edited one book
  • He has presented at numerous national and international meetings as an invited speaker 
  • Current research interests include:
    • Risk stratification in complex aortic surgery
    • Neuroprotection in complex aortic surgery
    • Outcomes in cardiac and aortic surgery
