Vulval Clinic Photography

Why will I be offered medical photography?

Medical photography of vulval conditions helps us to diagnose and monitor changes in the vulval skin and see responses to treatment. It is also very helpful for teaching doctors and nurses and research. Photographs used in this way will always be anonymised.

Can I say no?

Yes, it is completely your decision and will only be done with your consent.

How will the images be stored?

The images are stored digitally on a secure computer database for this trust which is only accessible to authorised healthcare professionals.

Will I receive a copy of the photographs?

Barts Health NHS Trust owns the copyright to the photographs. Should you wish to obtain copies of the images, you can request for these by emailing the email address below.

Who will be taking the photographs?

A medical photographer will take the photographs in the clinic. The clinic doctor and nurse will be present. If a female photographer is not available on the day, you may request to reschedule the medical photography. This photographer is usually a female.

Can I change my mind? 

Yes, you can change your consent. You can contact the medical photography department should you wish to have your photographs deleted at a later date.

Large print and other languages

This information can be made available in alternative formats, such as easy read or large print, and may be available in alternative languages, upon request. For more information, speak to your clinical team.
